After School Enrichment

After School Enrichment at Pioneer Academy is designed to build on and expand the learning that is taking place during the regular school day. Please be advised, all scholars need to be in attendance to the enrichment programs that they are assigned and need to be picked up on time consistently. Below you will find a complete list of our enrichment programs, their teacher organizer, along with their days and times. 
 
Phonics Program: Tuesday: Wednesday, & Thursday, 2:35-4:00pm-Ms. Sanchez
 
Pioneer Academy's Phonics Program focuses phonics, vocabulary, and oral language instruction. Scholars engage in a variety of sound, letter pattern, word meaning, oral language and writing activities.
 
Chess Team: Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday, 2:35-4:00pm-Ms. Chandler & Mr. Elem
 
Chess helps to promote the analytical thought process through the game of chess. Scholars who are members of the chess team participate in various activities that promote critical thinking and decision making skills in grades second through fifth. Scholars also participate in one local tournament once a month.
 
Tiger Schulmann: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 2:35-3:30pm-Mr. Borrero
 
This program gives scholars the opportunity to be physically active and to learn defensive moves through mixed martial arts.
 
Title III: Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday, 2:35-4:00pm-Ms. Edwards (2nd & 3rd Grades), Ms. Monaco (4th Grades), and Mr. Cover (5th Grade)
 
Title III is designed to provide academy support to English Language Learners in ELA, Math, and Science.
 
MakerSpace: Tuesday, 2:35-4:00pm-Ms. Cintron & Mr. Elem
 
MakerSpace provides the opportunity for scholars to become an “Engineer,” using the engineering design process to research and image, design and protype, playtest and improve. Through weekly Challenges, scholars will learn concepts in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) while also having fun building prototypes. Scholars will develop programming skills using the computer programming language Scratch.  
 
Mighty Milers: NYRR, Wednesday, & Thursday, 2:35pm-3:30pm-Coach Penn & Mr. Elem 
 
Mighty Milers is a running club for scholars. In addition to running, they are taught about proper nutrition and how it impacts their lives.
 
Ping Pong: Tuesday, 2:35-3:30pm, Coach Penn
 
In ping pong scholars develop social skills and hand eye coordination through active involvement on a weekly basis.
 
Activity Tuesday & Wednesday: 2:35-3:30pm, Coach Penn & Mr. Wisnieski
 
Activity Tuesday & Wednesday are designed so that scholars participate in different physical education activities designed to keep them active and moving. They also participate in discussions about the benefits of good nutrition.
 
Morning Wake-Up: Mon-Fri, 7:00-7:30am, Coach Penn
 
Morning Wake-Up is geared to help scholars who have a tendency to arrive late to school. Scholars come to school every morning to exercise with a physical education teacher and are able to go to breakfast immediately after.
 
Girls Inc.: Monday, 2:30-3:30pm, Ms. Newby
 
In Girls Inc. our female scholars are empowered to develop self-confidence and self-esteem while collaborating and executing skills such as: cooking, sewing and sharing thoughts on current issues on a weekly basis.
 
5th Grade Dance Program: Tuesday & Thursday, 2:30-4:00pm, Ms. Bravo
