Pioneer Academy p.s. 307 queen's English as a new language Department kindergarten to 5th grade how do Scholars enter the English language Pro parents have to fill out a home language question year afterwards English teachers interview students individually who have indicated home language is a language other than English the information on the home language will then be reviewed and carefully determine if the student will take a test called the nice to tell the night to tell is to help parents I mean will help us decide if the student has an English language learner and how much how many instructional minutes the students receive in the classroom students who are entering an emerging or beginning will get 360 minutes per week or seven to eight. a week of language support for periods coaching and three or four periods in a small group for stand-alone mandated instructional time for transitioning expanding levels are 180 minutes per week which is four periods per week of co-teaching foreign students who are commanding they don't they no longer take the nicest flat but they will still continue to receive support from a English teacher in 90 minutes for a week with in the classroom co-teaching our daily schedule is either a stand-alone or integrated model 4 times a week for both models are the four modalities learning English English classes focus on strengthening for language modalities listening speaking reading and writing the nicest Lotte New York State english-as-a-second-language achievement test just given every year in the spring the nicest that is administered in Spring to all students how can parents help so they can encourage good work habits ensure their child goes to school everyday ready to learn review your child's agenda everyday attend all or most parent-teacher conferences and annual English language learner parent meeting created supportive home environment read with your child at home and language every day possible and if you can go to the public library and get a library card some important websites will it rain in New York State Department of location office of multilingual Learners reading rockets and of course the Pioneer Academy website thank you so much for listening to this presentation
